James Sathasivam was born to Mr. Mahadevan Sathasivam and Mrs. Yvonne Sathasivam on the 22nd May 1954 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was boarded and educated whilst in Sri Lanka at St Thomas College, preparatory in Colombo and thereafter proceeded to St Thomas College, Mt Lavinia in Sri Lanka. In the interim period of 1965 to 1968 he attended Grammar School in London and thereafter returned to Sri Lanka to finish off his higher education.
In 1972 he returned to London. In his early career he was employed by a number of renowned companies such as SCAC International, Gondrand Freres, London and Overseas, Drake and Scull International and Jacobson Van Der Burg. The above named companies were focused in the areas of international shipping and forwarding, project engineering, procurement and Commodity & Financing.
Since these early formidable days, James has excelled in the areas of structured finance and advisory to major global banking institutions, with a focus on Africa. For example in the D.R. Congo he helped facilitate solutions for mining operational problems in the country. He has also served as Managing Director (Global Trading Division) in a UK based International Corporate investment finance firm.
James offers over 40 years of experience in business management, general commodity trading, and structured finance. He offers considerable worldwide investment banking and entrepreneurial experience in the re-structuring of companies. He was Managing Director, Global Trade Services of a Merchant Banking firm in London with responsibilities for facilitating new opportunities in infrastructure projects and handling emerging market Senior Government contacts, and facilitating PPP type structures. James also has experience in floating companies on the NASDA (USA) and is a board member to a number of overseas companies.
James has built his carrier in project finance and funding, while working with major International EPC firms to identify funding opportunities, structure funding and help to implement projects. He has worked with numerous multi-national clients, Heads of States, Ministers/Governmental Departments and very senior business people across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
James focuses primarily on developing economies with ongoing interests in China, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Chad and Nigeria.
